Missy Mae turned 5 on Saturday! I can hardly believe it. Five seems kinda big all of a sudden when words like kindergarten start entering your mind! She was so excited for her birthday and had been planning all kinds of things she wanted to do on the big day. When it finally rolled around Daxton, Maylee and Dustin were SO sick. Not wanting her day to be a bust we offered her a date day. She chose to go to the 99 store (99 Cent Store) to spend the $1.12 she had, go see Strange Magic at the theater, then go to Costco for pizza for lunch with Mom. I offered her a choice of a ton of restaurants for lunch and Costco was the winner. Nana and Grandad even called to offer to take us out for lunch on her birthday, but she said "no thank you" and kept with her Costco choice. Keeping it classy around here. After lunch we visited Nana and Grandad for a while, then came home for presents and her dinner choice of "red box cracker chicken" (poppy seed chicken) and had chocolate peanut butter cupcakes for dessert. Daxton and Maylee were getting worse so Nana offered for Mikayla to sleepover that night. As soon as her "relax" bath was over Mikayla readily agreed and off she went. It was a bummer everyone was sick, but she totally scored big time as a result!
This picture is totally typical Mikayla. She went off to preschool with a fancy dress, a sweater because she refuses to wear coats (too hot), hair done by herself with a fancy bow, fancy boots (boy boots, on the wrong feet, that are too small but she loves because they have a "heel" on them), Bear Bear, a purse and a naked doll by her side...not to mention the sass. It's good to be five.
A couple days before her birthday she got a card with birthday money from Grandma and Grandpa Kartchner and asked me to take her to Costco to buy a bouquet of flowers with her money. Her request unknown to Dustin, he showed up with a bouquet of flowers for her that night! She was pretty excited.
Birthday makeovers before our date. Maylee was totally going to go as well, per Mikayla's request, but then she started throwing up and had to stay home. Poor girl!
The sickies.
She had been wanting a fairy princess party for her birthday, but we were planning on going to Dillon's homecoming talk and were going to be gone on her birthday so we told her we could do a little party the Monday after when we got back. We ended up missing the talk, but she still had her mind set on a party. Some of my family was brave enough to chance being around the sick kiddos and came to celebrate with our little Tinkerbell fairy princess.
When I had asked her what kind of cake she wanted she requested a fairy princess Barbie cake. Then she got looking in an Oriental Trading catalog I gave her and found some Tinkerbell plates she wanted for the party and also requested we play pin the wings on a fairy. I went to Walmart to get everything for the party and couldn't find any Tinkerbell plates so I got Hello Kitty and called it good. Well, Nana caught wind of the situation and put her online searching mega-skills to use and found the exact same plates that were in the Oriental Trading catalog at Party City. Nana also found pin the wand on Tinkerbell, a tablecloth and cups to go with the infamous plates. Lessons learned: Don't let your kid look in catalogs and Nana rocks.
Nana happened to have Tinkerbell costumes in both our girls' sizes and Maylee actually readily agreed to wear one! We are all shocked!

And, it's done. We've had a "real birthday and a fake birthday (Monday)" and we officially have a 5 year-old diva!
