Maylee was so excited for her birthday this year. She had a wish list of things she wanted to do and at the top of her list was getting flushies from Circle K. The plans also included having crepes for breakfast (Dustin is our crepe maker so luckily we had them the day before her birthday and she got to enjoy those), a water party with our family (tons of family was in town that week), swimming in the water trough at Mammy and Pappy's house, having hamburgers and hot dogs with chips, and having an ice cream sandwich tower for her cake. Well, the day of her party, a Monday, she wasn't feeling superb. Dustin gave her a blessing and we were confident we should go ahead with plans and things would be okay. Walking into her party she ended up throwing up and was quite sick for the rest of the week. We went home that night and sang to her with candles on some mini cupcakes she talked me into buying her for her birthday, but she couldn't even eat one. On Thursday night we had decided if she didn't start perking up and getting more liquids in by the next morning she would have to be taken to the ER. She was so gaunt and skinny it was heartbreaking. I set my alarm and woke up with her throughout the night to give her sips of liquids and she was finally able to keep something down. Friday she was still exhausted, but keeping down food, thank goodness.
Dustin and I both felt that it was really important to have a big celebration for Maylee this year and we were really discouraged when it wasn't able to happen. What we didn't realize was that our hopes and prayers for her to feel extra loved this year were just answered in a very different way than we expected. Instead of a party she was able to have countless prayers said in her behalf, she received many extra cuddles and love throughout the week, and was given priesthood blessings that testified of our Heavenly Father's love for her and that she would have a special relationship with her Savior throughout her life.
On Saturday we had her party. She was spoiled and we were happy to spoil her! We sure love our Belle Belle and I am grateful for the crazy week we had to help us remember how special she truly is.
