Carving Pumpkins

We were all anxious to see what Mikayla's reaction to carving pumpkins would be this year (for a history, check here).

She did not disappoint.  This year she started crying BEFORE the pumpkin was even opened.  She kept telling me all day that she was going to let Dad get the gross stuff out and then she would put the candle in.  I guess she meant what she said.  She watched from a distance most of the time.
At least we got her to take a scoop out and touch a single pumpkin seed.  Progress is progress, right?
Maylee wasn't too sure about the pumpkin guts, either, but she warmed up.
We ended up with a polka dot pumpkin and a surprised face pumpkin, per Mikayla's requests.

Pumpkin Patch

We went to the pumpkin patch last week and really enjoyed it (especially after the sun went down and it wasn't so hot!).  There were so many things to do and we were lucky to score some tickets to do things that we wouldn't normally do...we rode two trains, climbed the hay tunnel, watched pig races, jumped on the jumping pillows, played on the play set, Dustin did the zip line, pet animals at the petting zoo, and of course, picked pumpkins.
I swear Maylee smiles and is happy in real life, but the pictures sure don't show it!  Ever since we got Teddy Maylee has called him "Teddo".  Now every animal is "Teddo".
This pretty much summed up the girl's faces for the first couple of hours.  They were taking everything in...very seriously!
Maylee has a tendency to get left behind a lot because she just stops dead in her tracks and forgets to keep walking.  She was enjoying the show I guess!
Mikayla was SO excited about Mickey and Minnie on the back of the train!
By the time we picked pumpkins it was pitch black and we only had the flashlight on Dustin's phone to see.  We ended up with two pumpkins that don't stand up and a little one that barely stands.  Carving them should be fun!
Maylee was totally content to rip leaves on the plants and had no interest in picking a pumpkin.  It's probably a good thing because carrying three pumpkins and two girls was tricky enough already!

Halloween with the Hancock Crew

On Saturday Dustin's parents had a little Halloween party for the kiddos and then in the evening we did a murder mystery dinner with the adults.  Once again, there are lots of pictures to tell the story!

For the kid's party we did an abbreviated version of costumes and they didn't stay on long, but Mikayla was in heaven because she found "Rapunzel hair" in the basement.  The games were fishing, doughnut eating and decorating pumpkins.  Nice and short, but perfect.  Later in the day the kids made dirt cups and decorated sugar cookies with Mammy.  I'm sad I didn't get individual pictures of all the kids in their costumes, but that's the way it goes with all the craziness.
Then on to the adult dinner and party later that evening...
The Peacocks
The Plums
The Whites
The Mustards
The Scarletts
The Greens
The whole crazy Clue Crew
After dinner we had to solve the mystery of which couple killed Nuna (the family dog) by playing several games.  I didn't get many pictures since we were busy having fun...
DeeDee and David did a great job planning the night!
