Pioneer Day Celebration

We had an awesome weekend in St. David celebrating Pioneer Day with family.  It felt like we never stopped going, but it was loads of fun.  After seeing how many pictures there are from all the festivities it's no wonder we were so tired!

When we got to St. David on Friday night Mikayla talked Mammy into making "cream filled donuts with frosting and sprinkles".  Talk about a spoiled rotten girl and talk about some of the yummiest donuts I have ever had!

Saturday morning started off with a small town parade and the theme was "The Good 'Ole Days".  The girls made a haul with candy and they were happy.  Maylee spent the rest of the weekend stealing suckers.

After the parade we headed to the school for some games.  Mikayla was so stoked about a slip 'n slide and when we got there a bunch of older boys were on it, but she just jumped right in.  She is getting so much braver!  I loved watching the frog races and hearing all the little girls squealing when the frogs would go near them.  Mammy and Pappy spoiled us with shave ice and the girls were in heaven.

Then on to the horseless rodeo!  Somehow Dustin convinced Mikayla that ribbon roping was right up her alley and she said she'd do it.  I'm grateful they were the first ones to do it because she had no idea what was coming her way!  Luckily her knight in shining armor, Uncle Bubba, came running to the rescue after her Dad got the calf stopped.  Bubba swooped her up and ran across the arena and helped her get the ribbon.

I gotta say one of my favorite parts of the weekend was hanging out with both my family and my in-laws and it seeming like we truly were just all one big family.  It's wonderful.

Soda race for the littles.  Maylee kind of refused to participate.  Thank goodness for Uncle Jake.

Auntie Maren borrowed Dustin's boot so she could get a shoe on faster in the boot race.

It was so hot!  It was worth the wait to see Dustin, David and Jake win the calf dressing competition though!

The great day ended with horseback rides in the driveway from Uncle Bubba and Uncle Devin, then on to fireworks.  Couldn't have been more fun!

Sunday morning manicures from Mammy.

Mikayla thought she was pretty hot stuff getting to wear Mammy's old dress to church.  She insisted that her hair be just like Mammy's was in the picture she saw of Mammy wearing the dress (below).  In a few of the pictures Mikayla had her hands tucked behind her back, then decided she better move them forward so that "people could know that it's me and not Mammy in the picture".

The weekend ended with saying goodbye to this little cutie and his parents who are moving away for school.  We'll miss them, but glad we got to have one last hoorah before they leave!
